Regarding “Why Science Will Triumph Only When Theory Becomes Law”

I love Wired magazine. I love science and all things tech, and believe in the laws of nature.
I also believe God created Heaven and Earth and sent his Son to save us.
Why are these concepts mutually exclusive? Why can’t someone believe that God is the ultimate creator, and that science is the ultimate pursuit to understand the universe created by God?
This seems to be a uniquely American concept: Right-wing conservative Christians warring against defensive, equally stubborn scientists, and not an inch of shared ground.
When both sides of this argument realize that their beliefs are not threatened by the opposite position, we can move ahead, and not need articles like "Why Science Will Triumph Only When Theory Becomes Law."
